In a spectacular feat, Shah Rukh Khan’s latest release, “Jawan,” has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by delivering the biggest opening in the history of Hindi cinema. The film, which follows Shah Rukh Khan’s highly anticipated “Pathaan,” has set a new benchmark in the Indian film industry.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, “Jawan” raked in an impressive Rs 75 crore on its first day, with an astounding Rs 65.50 crore coming from the Hindi version and an additional Rs 10 crore from the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions. The film’s global box office earnings reached a staggering Rs 129.6 crore, marking it as the highest-ever Hindi opener worldwide.
This remarkable achievement places “Jawan” as the highest-grossing Hindi film on its opening day, surpassing the Rs 60 crore milestone. The film’s release coincided with the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, which undoubtedly contributed to its impressive collections, expected to surge even further over the weekend.
“Pathaan,” Shah Rukh Khan’s earlier release, had previously set a record by earning Rs 57 crore on its opening day. However, it continued to soar and concluded its run with a remarkable Rs 543 crore, a record that “Jawan” may soon challenge. Additionally, “Gadar 2,” which presently stands at around Rs 510 crore, could potentially surpass “Pathaan’s” record.
Gautam Dutta, Co-CEO of PVR INOX Limited, acknowledged that the Janmashtami holiday played a significant role in boosting “Jawan’s” box office collection. He stated, “The love and response of audiences on the first day of the release of ‘Jawan’ is overwhelming and sensational, and proves the significance and might of mass entertainers in the film industry.”
Dutta added, “The film has released at a time when the industry is seeing its glorious days with consumers going out to cinemas in huge numbers. If the unprecedented audience response is anything to go by, we are confident that ‘Jawan’ would not only be the biggest film of this year but would end up adding immense strength to the cinema ecosystem.”
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala predicted that “Jawan” would attain a worldwide gross opening of over Rs 150 crore, setting a new record for a Hindi movie. With its phenomenal pre-sales and massive opening, “Jawan” now stands as the fourth-largest opener in Indian cinema history, trailing only “RRR” (Rs 223.5 crore), “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” (Rs 214.5 crore), and “KGF: Chapter 2” (Rs 164.5 crore).
“Jawan” has undoubtedly created a significant buzz in the industry, and Shah Rukh Khan’s fans eagerly await the film’s future milestones and its journey at the box office.
