Global star Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently took her fans on a nostalgic trip as she shared memories from her iconic film Kaminey, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Posting a heartfelt note along with throwback pictures from the movie, the actress reflected on how the film became a turning point in her career.
Priyanka revealed that the opportunity came to her while she was shooting for Dostana in Miami. To her surprise, she received a call from filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, a director she had always admired but never expected to collaborate with due to her “commercial image” at that time. Bhardwaj even flew to Miami to narrate the story, assuring her that although the character of Sweety Bhope initially had limited screen time, it would grow into something far more significant. Trusting his vision, Priyanka agreed to take on the role.
Looking back, she expressed that working with Vishal Bhardwaj taught her valuable lessons in preparation, research, and truly surrendering to a character. She fondly credited her co-star Shahid Kapoor, who played a double role in the film, for his “sensational” performance, and highlighted Amol Gupte’s impactful presence. She also mentioned meeting producer Mubina Rattonsey for the first time during the making of the film.
Priyanka went on to collaborate with Bhardwaj again in 7 Khoon Maaf, fulfilling his promise of creating something even more special for her. But it was Kaminey, released 16 years ago, that she considers a milestone in shaping her journey as an actor.
Through her post, Priyanka not only celebrated the film’s legacy but also invited her fans to revisit the cult classic, asking them if they had watched it. For many, Kaminey remains a defining film of the late 2000s, remembered for its gritty storytelling, memorable music, and stellar performances.
