For actress Mrunal Thakur, the film Love Sonia was far more than a debut—it was the beginning of a transformative journey, both professionally and personally. Sharing her experience, she recalls the profound impact the project had on her life and the lives of countless others.
Hailing from a small town with dreams larger than life, Mrunal describes the moment she was chosen to portray Sonia as nothing short of miraculous. “Seven years ago, life surprised me with the most unexpected gift,” she writes. What started as an acting opportunity quickly became a mission to bring awareness to human trafficking, a cause that touched her deeply.
On set, Mrunal found herself amidst some of cinema’s finest talents, including Demi Moore, Freida Pinto, Richa Chadha, Manoj Bajpayee, Rajkummar Rao, and many more. She admits that the experience was both humbling and inspiring. “I felt like the tiniest fish in a vast ocean, but their kindness made me feel like I belonged,” she shares. Guidance from director Tabrez Noorani left a lasting impression, especially his belief that the film’s true value lies not in its commercial success but in the lives it helps change.
Mrunal also extends gratitude to the team behind the film, from producer David Womark to activist Ruchira Gupta, whose tireless work against trafficking inspired the story, and technical pillars like sound designer Resul Pookutty. And, of course, A.R. Rahman’s evocative music gave Sonia’s journey a soul-stirring resonance.
What sets Love Sonia apart, according to Mrunal, is its impact beyond the screen. The film inspired NGOs, sparked conversations, and even saved lives. Fans continue to reach out years later, sharing how the story has touched them. Reflecting on her own growth, Mrunal concludes: “Sonia gave me courage, gave me a voice, gave me a family in cinema. This film will always be a part of my soul.” She hopes to continue telling stories that heal, inspire, and make a difference.
Through Love Sonia, Mrunal Thakur not only found her footing in the film industry but also embraced a purpose that goes far beyond acting—showing that cinema can indeed change lives.
